Symphony at the Workplace

Mr Aubrey C. Nazareth conducted a two-day Orientation Programme for the teachers on the 18th and 19th of April 2016. The title of the workshop “Symphony at the Workplace” alludes to harmony in the work area. In describing the objective behind organizing the workshop, the College Principal, Dr (Sr) Mary Harriet had this to say “I see the importance of motivating the staff, and although I have a very dedicated and effective team, a yearly orientation programme helps to refresh and remind them of the essential aspects of teaching.” Over the course of the programme, through multiple sessions, teachers from different streams, working in groups were made to perform different exercises, tasks and experiments to show different ways by which learning can be imparted in class. At the end of the Orientation Programme , all the teachers agreed that the programme was an excellent way to get in touch with oneself. It was also a gentle reminder of all that one knew-- a recapitulation of practical wisdom, enabling one to impart not just knowledge but wisdom to the students. Besides this, Mr Aubrey Nazareth also examined the concept of success vrs significance through a documentary entitled “Celebrating What’s Right With The World”. In the film clip, Dewett Jones, a National Geographic photographer asks: Do we choose to see possibilities? Do we really believe they are there? And in the end Jones assures us that there is always more than one right answer. The Orientation Programme is thus a celebration of “what’s right with the world”, helping us as teachers to recognize the possibilities that is hidden in every child.
