Department of Home Science

The Department of Home Science in St. Mary's College was introduced in 1966 with pre- university classes. The Department was upgraded to teach B.Sc. Home Science from 1975 and it is in the same year that the Department also started to teach B.A. Nutrition. At present the Department teaches B.Sc. Home Science Honours and Pass and B.A. Nutrition Pass and Honours.

Home Science is one full-fledged stream in the College, which has open avenues of self employment for the students graduating in the subject. At present the Department has 7 full time teachers out of which five are against UGC sanctioned posts and the College Management has appointed two lecturers. Besides, the Department also has two guest lecturers.

The education imparted to the students of the Home Science stream has a direct relevance to their family and social life.
