Avenues and Prospects

Geography is offered in both Pass and Honours level as one of the elective subjects. It is an interdisciplinary subject since students at undergraduate level can opt for it either from Arts or Science stream. The subject has a wide coverage including studies related to the physical, economic, social and cultural environment of the earth. The students offering the subject at the honours level can either go for postgraduate course or can join diploma courses in GIS, cartographic techniques and population studies. Graduates with Geography (pass or honours) can avail jobs, besides teaching in schools, in the organizations such as Census, National Sample Survey, as cartographer in Survey of India etc. Those who are aspiring for joining Administrative Services both at State or National levels should opt for geography at undergraduate level since in all the competitive examinations of these services geography is one of the most commonly offered subjects.
