Home science was introduced at the degree level under the Gauhati University in 1966. The North Eastern Hill University upgraded it to the three year degree programme, i.e., Bachelor of Home Science in 1975.

- Students admitted into the Home Science Stream are required to attend the Compulsory Certificate Course in Home Science.
