Pre-Independence Day Celebration

The Annual Pre- Independence Day Celebration 2010, organised by the Students’ Council, was filled with a lot of enthusiasm this year. The Celebration saw students eagerly taking part in all the events and competitions conducted by the Council. Events included an Essay and a Poetry writing competition in which Meboreen (BCA I) and Nancyonette (BA I (Hons)) won first prize respectively. The Pre- Independence Day Celebration was held on the 13th of August 2010 in the College Auditorium and was hosted by the seniors Shahina and Sister Sheela. The programme started with a prayer service conducted by the Sisters of the RNDM. Sangeeta and Rumita then performed a Vande Mataram dance. The Vice Principal lighted the lamp to mark the special occasion and gave a speech highlighting the importance of the patriotism especially among the youth. A Mizo song was then sung by the Mizo students comprising of Zothannguri, Priscilla, Lalhmingmawii, C. S. Lalfakkimi, C. S. Lalrinhlui, Baby Laldinpuii, Vanlalnghaki, C. Lalrinhlui, Vanlalduhsaki, Saidingpuii and group. This was followed by a theme dance entitled Banden performed by Upasna and Zeba. Prizes were then distributed to the winners of the Essay and Poetry writing competitions after which Nancyonette read her winning poem. Lanosha, Christine, Betshwa, Suzanne, Darielyne then took the stage and performed a lively traditional Khasi dance which was followed by a solo dance by Carolyne entitled Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyara Hai ; after which a vibrant Gujarati Dance was then performed. The 3rd year students comprising of Alicia, Maphida, Dondor, Miracle, Janet, Adelaine, Chongneithem, Tobom, Darilin, Shanaiah and Lalnunmawi then performed a beautiful dance entitled I am not forgotten. A patriotic hindi song was sung NCC Cadets Joyshree, June and Melfinoreen. Shahina, Amrita, Anupoma, Nimmi, Tanushree, Rumita, Mamoni, Nita, Sangeeta then performed a colorful traditional Punjabi dance entitled Hulle Hullare. The Vote of thanks was delivered by Christine Lyngdoh and the programme ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
