NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)

With its motto of “Unity and Discipline” the National Cadet Corps aims to create organized, trained and motivated youths by developing qualities of leadership, team spirit, secular outlook, ideas of selfless service and spirit of adventure. The activities of the NCC can be broadly divided into Institution Training, Community Development Programme cum Social Service Activities, Youth Exchange Programme and Adventure Training and Sports. NCC “C” certificate cadets receive benefits in the form of reserved vacancies for commission in the Defense Forces, i.e., in the Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. Scholarships are also available for deserving NCC cadets who have excelled in academics. The college unit provides opportunity for the students to be a part of this unique organization and the cadets of the college unit actively take part in the Independence and Republic Day Parade. The college has a senior wing unit of 61 Meghalaya Girl’s NCC Battalion. One Assistant NCC Officer (ANO) of the rank of Lieutenant is in charge of this unit.

How to Join NCC

  1. Enrollment into the National Cadet Corps is on a voluntary basis. Students, both boys and girls, can join at the age of 13 years in Junior Division (JD)/ Junior Wing (JW) (Class VIII to X). Enrollment in Senior Division (SD)/ Senior Wing (SW) is from Class XI to Class XII in Schools and also in degree colleges. A Cadet can stay in JD/JW for two years and in the SD/SW for three years.
  2. Enrollment commences at the beginning of the academic session immediately following the completion of the institutional admission to the academic institutions.
