An Inter-Departmental Poster Competition was held on the 8th of March 2019 on the UN theme “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change.” to observe the International Women’s Day organized by the Women’s Welfare Cell in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, IQAC, St. Mary’s College, Shillong All together 18 teams comprising 35 students representing all the departments participated and prepared posters on one the following sub-themes:
1. Balance for a better world: Working towards a more gender- balanced society.
2. Women Achievers in different fields: Local, National and International.
3. Ordinary women who played an extraordinary role in the society.
4. Working towards a cyber-safe world for women.
The departments of Zoology, Home Science and Computer Science bagged the First, Second and Third prizes respectively. Vice Principal Ms. Magdalene Badwar, and Ms. Saifun Nessa of the Department of Sociology gave away the prizes and certificates.
In this connection a special Prayer Service was organised dedicated to the spirit of womanhood in the Morning assembly of the college. The day’s programme ended with a prize distribution ceremony. Ms. Nirupama James, Head, Department 0f Home Science and Ms. Kobita Deka, Coordinator IQAC and Ms. Anjali Paul, a 6th Semester student council representative from the Department of Philosophy spoke on the occasion. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Dr. Indrani Choudhury, Coordinator Women’s Welfare Cell and the College Head Girl Ms. Akhumla Sangtam from the Department of History. Ms. Rita Biswa of the Department of Political Science proposed the Vote of thanks.
